What Is an LOP Pharmacy, and How Does It Work in Texas?

An LOP pharmacy fills a personal injury client's prescriptions under a Letter of Protection instead of requiring payment or insurance at the counter. The pharmacy delivers the medication, documents every fill, and is paid from the settlement or judgment when the case resolves. LoneStar Injury Rx, a program of Greenhouse Pharmacy, does this for law firms in all 254 Texas counties.

Why personal injury firms use an LOP pharmacy

Most injured clients cannot pay for prescriptions out of pocket while a claim is pending, and many have no insurance or an insurer that will not cover accident-related care. An LOP pharmacy removes that gap. The client gets the medication the treating provider prescribed, the firm gets a clean record of every fill, and the pharmacy waits for the case to resolve.

For the firm, three things matter more than the pharmacy's zip code: whether the pharmacy accepts the LOP without friction, whether it can deliver to a client who may be immobile or hours from the nearest urban pharmacy, and whether its records will survive a defense expert's review. Those three are what LoneStar Injury Rx was built around.

How the LOP process works, step by step

1. Your firm sends the referral

Email or fax the signed LOP and the prescription (or the prescriber's information). Takes about five minutes. Your dedicated liaison confirms receipt the same business day.

2. We verify the prescription

A pharmacist confirms the prescription with the treating provider, checks for interactions against the client's medication list, and resolves any clinical questions directly with the prescriber.

3. We fill and ship statewide

Medication is dispensed and shipped to the client's door anywhere in Texas, typically within 24 hours. Refills run on the same LOP without a new referral.

4. Documentation goes to your file

Every fill generates an itemized statement, dispensing log, and delivery confirmation, sent to your case manager in the format your demand letters and depositions use.

When the case resolves, charges are settled from the proceeds according to the LOP. Your firm never fronts pharmacy costs and the client never receives a bill during the case.

LOP Pharmacy Questions Texas Firms Ask

A Letter of Protection is a written agreement from a personal injury attorney to a medical provider stating that the provider's charges will be paid from the client's settlement or judgment. It lets an injured client receive care now, without insurance or cash, while the case is pending.

No. Under a Letter of Protection accepted by LoneStar Injury Rx, the client pays nothing at the point of service. Charges are documented and billed against the case, subject to the terms of the LOP.

Prescriptions written by the client's treating provider for injury-related care, including pain management, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants, sleep aids, and compounded topical preparations. Controlled substances are filled in full compliance with Texas and federal law and require a valid prescription from a licensed prescriber.

Typically within 24 hours of receiving both the LOP and a valid prescription. Greenhouse Pharmacy maintains a 98% 24-hour fulfillment rate. Medications ship directly to the client anywhere in Texas.

Two things: the signed Letter of Protection and the prescription (or the prescriber's contact so we can obtain it). Our attorney liaison handles verification with the prescriber and confirms the delivery address with the client.

Billing is governed by the terms of the Letter of Protection your firm signs. Our liaison will walk through how reductions and no-recovery scenarios are handled before your first referral, so there are no surprises on either side.

Yes. LoneStar Injury Rx is operated by Greenhouse Pharmacy, licensed by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy under the Texas Pharmacy Act. Accepting a Letter of Protection changes how the pharmacy is paid, not how it dispenses.
